My new 1100s block and has the S after engine number. All four bores are sleeved and there is no noticeable wear on a standard bore size
Rob has also had one or two of these and minimal wear a common thing.
Looks like the sleeve material may be better than the block material .
Will get my shop to run a dial bore gauge over it .
Wont be doing unnecessary boring on this one.

The liners used by the factory were made by Hepolite.

These were thin wall sleeves and are for standard size pistons only.

No oversize pistons can be used because the wall thickness of the re bored liner is too thin and flexes during use causing excessive oil usage. :D

Yes I understand this but I think a 20 thou overbore would be OK .Gee they dont wear much compared to the block material
Ive seen Japanese motors where the bores dont wear much but the rings flog out Toyota Supra is one ive seen. Was 3 litre turbo .

Is this for all 1100s blocks? Once they need a review they are throw away?

You could bore the liner right out and either fit bigger pistons, or new liners.
But unless it's a rarer Cooper S block you are saving, the high cost of fitting 4 new liners isn't worth it.

I had a factory linered A+ block in Barney with a +.020" overbore and it was fine. Evan Redman recently got it bored again, to +.040" I think.

Yes thought of that Doc Will get it measured .Might keep on standard bore if its OK
I had that bore the sleeve out thought but if they sleeved them because of porosity it might not be a good outcome.

I had my 1100S block sleeved, it had rust pits in the cylinder walls that didn't clean up at 60thou. They're getting pretty thin on the ground now.

Carter no its not all This is the first ive seen and it has suffix S after the engine number.
The lack of any obvious wear is amazing

I have one of these 1275 Blocks with the S after engine number. When I first got the block it was actually bored out to +.060" on the sleeves. I have had the sleeves removed and had it re sleeved to Standard again.

I dont believe for one minute flex is an issue with a sleeve I think it may be thermal issues with the sleeve getting thinner.
The sleeve in these engines is of a high standard im thinking

Talk to GR, he fits new sleeves and bores them all the time. I had to get one cylinder sleeved recently on a std bore 1100S. It had cleaned up at +.030" but had a `rust mark' in #2 that kept growing, right near top of ring travel.

I heard from a knowledgeable person that many engine were sleeved from the factory because the block material was porous.

Sleeved blocks make more power due to better ring seal. Their iron is much finer grained than the block is.
