hi guys, first post hopefully i have found the right section !

I have just purchased a 68 morris mini, with a mk2 1275 cooper s engine, 13g port and polished head, en40b crank, kent cam, dual valve springs, webber carb, lightened flywheel and a straight cut gear box.

Now !! :D it needs exhaust and extractors. What would you guys recommend ??

Cheers, Kyle

I have a set of LCB (long centre branch) extractors and a Maniflow twin box system. I like it as it still sounds nice but not to loud. The extra resonator in the tunnel helps prevent droning. They are very well made but I imagine not cheap. Mine has lasted very well and has been on the car at least 15 years (well before I owned the car).

That would be my choice too. Single box RC40 sounds nice but is a bit louder, more droney when cruising as Phill says.

Single box RC40 won't (or rather didn't) pass ACT noise test for rego.... (although it was some years ago).

I bought a new twin box RC40 around 10 years ago (because I had the chance) but still waiting for the one I fitted in 1990 to fail before installing it......

I have the Mainflow LCB I bought at the same time (1990) hanging in the shed. I replaced it in 08 with a new Manifold II LCB because the Y piece on the old one was getting pretty beaten up by my driveway.

Cheers, Ian

I've got a twin box RC40 on my van with Maniflow 2 LCB and it sounds good with a HIF44.

But on my Cooper S I have a genuine NOS Lukey single muffler with Ron Brownrigg LCB exhaust manifold and 45 Weber and that sounds so much better. Only problem is Brownriggs were meant for racing and hang down a bit lower so the Y piece becomes a bit vulnerable on a road car.

I'm using Brownrigg extractors by Link Automotive/HP Performance. I like them. I'm using the big bore versions ceramic coated my my application, but they do standard bore also. Very smooth bends, nice sound, anti-reversion, good performance. But I haven't done back to back bench tests or anything.
