I recently purchased a mini-matic which unfortunately is missing the ID plate.

The body number is YMA2S4 892, can someone help me with dating it.

Looking at the mini-matic website I thought 1968 but looking at John Sneddons book the production run was longer so being a Mk11 it is likely at least 1969.

The engine number is 99H119 H1416

Thanks in advance for any help.

In nsw of there's no build plate / compliance plate you need to establish that the car has been registered previously, this could be with old registration papers (in which case you'd probably have a date) or I was able to request an archives search for the registration records which returned the previous registration details less private stuff like the owner and plate number at the time. It took some time to get the right lead and piece of paper to fill in but surprisingly easy and cheap after that.

Body on my 3/70 car is stamped YA2S5 and the plate YG2S5, go figure. Mistakes were common when stamping plates..

Do you know if the engine is original or not?

Is there any date stamps on the original wiper motor, distributor etc?

I just had a look over your gumtree add https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/nhill/c ... 1178333655 and your car is a 1969 MK2 matic. The firewall has the extra captive nuts for the speedo binnacle making the body a MK2. The sugar cane sticker is correct for the MK2. Interior is MK2.

The complete prefix and chassis number stampings are on the radiator shroud making it a MK2 but it looks like YA2S4 892.

I would say the early MK2 Matics dropped the M making the stamping YA2S4 and later they changed the 4 to a 5.

I would estimate this car at around June 1969.

Thank-you for all your help. Here is another photo showing the radiator shroud which shows it as a S4.

The previous owner told me the engine is original which I tend to believe.

Thanks again.

Looks like the first MK2 Matics were stamped YA2S4 then later went to YA2S5.
