Have Just come into becoming a proud owner of a mk2 cooper S. It is very original and straight and Im not going to restore it, but just get it going as is. Anyway the exhaust is missing the tail pipe and it seems the small muffler seems the have better days. I want to keep it original as possible. What size is the original pipes and how many mufflers or resonators did it have. Does anyone have any pictures of an original exhaust??

A survivor car! Great pick up. Congratulations.
Others around here know more than me, but I believe originally, only one muffler (Lukey, which I think is NLA) fitted to 1 & 3/4" pipe.
I have fitted an RC40, which is pretty close to the original Lukey job.

The original was a crimped exhaust and available from Somerford but maybe by the MK2 they might have changed them

Ha ha, you can spend a lot of money on a restoration only to find the car noisy, smelly, vibrating and rattly :)

My MkII S has a Lukey fitted in 1991 & still running.
"Maniflow" in UK have a reproduction original S muffler in their range now, with the crimped ends. Not sure if that style muffler was used in Aust. though.
Also, have noticed that the RC40 bought recently is a lot smaller than the originals.

yeah I’m not sure either. At the moment it has a small muffler down the front and nothing behind it. I’ll try to take a photo tonight. Not much room under there tho

The 1971 review of the new Mini Clubman listed leaky quarter windows and shaky speedo needles as some of it's features :lol:
