Post subject:  Upgraded to 4-pots- rears locking easier?

Just wondering if anyone has upgraded their brakes to 4-pot calipers and finds that the rears seems to lock up easier than before?

I have a rover brake booster going into the standard rover bias valve, new cylinders on rear (5/8), new pads and discs up front. The pads are just standard road pads, nothin

Previously i just had unboosted 8.4 brakes so its possible im being a little heavy on the pedal but i still cant help but feel they're locking way easier than they should.

Anyone else found this happens with bigger 4-pot brakes?
If i put a 60s style brake bias valve on the back subframe could that drop the pressure a bit more or should i look at fitting a proper pressure controlling valve somewhere?

Any experiences or info would be appreciated.
:D

I suggest you brake harder so that the rears are off the deck and then it won't matter whether they are locked or not :!:

You might need to fit smaller cylinders in rear.

I didnt know they made smaller cylinders but I had a quick look and there is a 9/16 size available that was fitted to ERA turbo minis (4 pot brakes!) so i might see if i can buy a pair of these somewhere and try that.

Mine has never locked however it is a Rover mini and may have different components to yours even though it also has 4 pots/discs on the front, drums on the rear and a booster.

If you have the stock rear cylinders then they could be 3/4in.

Yes stock. I replaced them along with the drums and shoes when doing my Vtec conversion.

Minis plus have two cylinders listed depending on if the car has front discs or drums. Internal bore is different size. If you haven't changed them you may need too now that you have discs.
I bought mine from Ben at minis plus. He was very knowledgeable when talking to him at the time.

The size isnt always to do with discs or drums. For example, 3/4 rear cylinders were used on both early drum cars and late disc cars. The smaller cylinders were mostly used on cooper s braked cars. There are other sizes too but less common.

I had a look at your build thread Dutchy, looks like you have 5/8 ones fitted like me currently......must be those sticky tyres you have making the difference! Haha!

the rover bias valve is known to get stuck over time and won't limit the rear pressure any longer.
smaller rear cylinders may work, but the ERA had them due to a differend layout
