Hi, what is the correct type of moustache for a 3/70 Mk 2 Cooper S, stainless or chrome? The car had a stainless moustache when I purchased it. Shortly after a "mini expert" told me that was wrong. as a result he offered to give me the correct chrome moustache in exchange for my stainless one. the chrome one had a more prominent peak in the centre and always looked like a Mk 1 moustache to me.

I keep getting conflicting advise on this and wish to have the correct type.

Thanks in advance

Hmmmmmm...did he throw the S/S item in the scrap bin? I bet he did not!!

I nearly cried when I replaced a parking dented stainless steel bumper with a reconditioned chrome version on a 66 De-Luxe...there is chrome, and then there is chrome :|

My 8/70 S has a stainless cowhorn/moustache, without the prominent peak. It is original as the car has had no major accidents. Stainless is good in that minor dings can be tapped out and buffed back to "new".
There are different grades of "stainless steel" and some mini brightwork parts use a cheaper SS which is magnetic, such as the grill and moustache.
Some years ago I spoke with a former Zetland senior staffer who mentioned that all the brightwork parts for local minis were pressed in the factory, including the grill.

John from Mini Kingdom has them. If you want them to fit perfect like mine it will take a couple of hours of work ,you will have to use a small grinding wheel and then block the edge with 320 aluminum oxide .Mark with masking tape where to sand.

Thank you for the responses. I suspected this was the case. He got at me a few times when I first got the car but then learned not to trust him. Fortunately he is not like all the other mini owners I have encountered who generally are very helpful and honest.

you reckon it's dishonesty, or pig-headed memory failure? I come across that a lot...
