Is it worthwhile fitting an electronic distributer ?What are the advantages ?Also what is the best type and supplier ?

I have had my 29D rebuilt with a new bush and fitted with an Accuspark electronic ignition module. As a consequence I haven't had a need to look at the dizzy since 2013.

The removal of the points stops the dizzy shaft jumping around, so the timing will settle down if the bush is a little worn. I also fitted an Accuspark Blackbox at the time, so I have a high energy coil fitted as they can operate very low ohm coils. Another plus for cold Canberra starts in winter.

I dropped an Accuspark module into my 23D4 dissy - No problems at all.

you guys are much smarter than I .Is the 23D4 the same as on my CS 1970 also where can I get an Accuspark from ?

The same module is used on the 23D4, 25D4 and 29D4.

Can a Mk2 Cooper S 29D4 AYG0175 dizzy be replaced with a Mk1 electronic 23D4 dizzy with no complications?

They are physically interchangeable. You will need the specific distributor cap (and plug leads if you are using a side entry cap)

You need to ensure the advance timing curve is appropriate for your engine

Hi, most people will not be aware of the fact that the advance curve changes if you fit an electronic ignition kit. some of the later electronic distributors tested fire two sparks up to 8 degrees apart, if they have an erratic advance curve. If your timing light shows the mark leaping around, you have a major problem. Cheers Lindsay Siebler

Sounds like I should steer clear of the electronic ignition kit. What about a complete electronic 23D4 distributor and fitting it in place of a 29D4 in a Mk2?
