What grade/tension Spring is used for the bonnet catch mechanism and where does it attach on the slam panel. Also which way is the usual direction to unlock the bonnet catch? Ie move to left or right.
Anybody got a photo or diagram of the lock setup?
Thanks in advance. Alan.

It slides from the passenger side to the drivers side.

These are the only pics I can find at the moment.

Thanks for that. My lock has a different setup in that the moveable part of the lock has a hole In the end for the spring to attach and the only spot I can find to attach to the slam panel is a hole which has the spring poking through the which you would cut/catch your hand on. I'll try and get a photo.

My slam panel was replaced by the PO so I don't know if the bonnet lock assy is correct. It works ok. I have never really taken much notice. I would like to see a few pics from an unrestored car to see what they are supposed to look like if anyone would like to share.

The repro slam panels have a few extra holes in the top and I believe one of these is for the return spring. But the original slam panel doesn't. Would your return spring go to the angle brace?

The Somerford mini site shows your type of slider (14A6493) at item 10. It doesn't show where the spring attaches on the slam panel.

Hi Doug.

Next time you are near your car would you mind grabbing a few pics of the slider and where the spring attaches to the slam panel? I have thousands of pics of cars but nothing showing the underside. Thanks Mate

"Too late", she cried. The slider is in a box with most of the other parts. Don't think I have a before photo. :(

At present it is mounted so it slides from pass side to drivers side and the spring hooked on to cross brace. If it is mounted the opposite way, there is a hole in the slam panel, but on the flat surface. Maybe just drill a hole for the spring in the back edge of slam panel in same spot.
