Just fired the Mk1 after 25 yrs hibernation (the car, not me). Trying to get a basic running tune and got to wondering what spanner size is CORRECT for the fasteners on the choke and throttle interconnecting linkages?

I have always used a well-worn old 5/16 spanner but it doesn't fit every time.
New screw and nut fasteners are .3230inch across, putting them between 5/16inch (too small) and 21/64inch - a bit too big and not a standard spanner size that I have seen. 1/8inch Whitworth is a sloppy fit on a new fastener and too big for some used ones.

Does this help, or was it just the linkages you are talking about?

Thanks Doug for the reply. I have a little jet spanner.
I only wanted to know about the linkage locking screws.

Thanks David.
I thought BA referred to a type of thread diameter/pitch series, as used in Smiths and Lucas electricals etc. Did BA have their own spanner sizes too?

You used to be able to by ignition spanners, all the weird tiny sizes.

The only other spanner type listed on the SU Carb site is this Whitworth set. Could Whit be the standard measure used on those linkage parts?

Yes. Their AF dimension for 2BA is between the two dimensions you gave. There is a Britool 0BA / 2BA spanner on eBay UK at present, but the shipping cost must be via the moon.

I've never had any dramas, just using a metric equivalent on a 1/4" drive socket with extension.

I love the Sidchrome 1/4" drive socket sets around the engine bay on a mini. Especially useful around the manifold nuts and carb linkages, the lower radiator hose clamp, engine mount nuts...etc etc.

The metric equivalent of 2BA is 8.23mm.

Thanks peterb.
Yes I have a Sidchrome ignition spanner set.
Just checked them. I thought the largest size was 5/16inch which is too small.
But there is 11/32inch and it fits new and old screw/nuts well.

I have always found a spanner that will do the job but curious what is the right size.
DavidE says the 2BA is 8.23mm - the new fasteners are 8.20mm so that sounds about right.
And Winabbey has found a 2BA spanner on eBay. And it's old Sidchrome! Must buy it.
Thanks all.
