How do you get the authentic yellow band.

This was my next question also.

Im going to trying find a piece of plastic the same yellow and cut a strip the same width as the original, then i was going to wrap it around and hold it in place with small clamps. Then i was going to plastic weld the ends up.

With the "Smiths" writing and other markings i was thinking of using a jewellers engraver to create the markings/writing then fill it in with a black paint fine marker.

A lot of work but surely worth a try. :)

Yellow heat shrink would do a great job for the smiths labels.

You can get text printed on heatshrink. I think it should say “Smiths Petro-flex”

Here are some photos

So i gave one of the hoses a go and although its not perfect, I know i can get it a lot better! :D

Im really happy with the result and my first attempt. :D

and although this was a trial i will do it again and know exactly what to do and how to get the ends tucked in and neat.

What do you guys think?

Pics show how they were before and one hose after trial.

Looks great. Just need to work out how to get the ends to hide under the fittings.

Here is a new set to compare to

Thanks Brad,

I know how to get ends nice and tight under the crimp collar now after this test trial.

Thanks for the pic of the new hoses, will surely come in hand.

Will get onto version 2.0 and show you guys when I'm done :D

Any pics during the process? It might make it into the "How to " section.

On one set I've seen the rubber ends were simply "worked" under the ferrule using a plastic screwdriver type tool after the rubber in that spot was cut out. It took a while to move it bit by bit but ended up looking like original.

This thread has enthused me to fix my original hoses. I bought a new set that look nice, but kink when making the bend. The main reason I bought new was because the original long hose has a cut in it.

To be honest, I didn't realise mine were original because they weren't black

Please see the damaged hose and do you think it's fixable?

Mmmm, I thought as much, thanks for your succinct answer gtogreeen. If there's anyone with a set of hoses please PM me if you're prepared to part with them.
