Post subject:  Loose throw out bearing!? [edit: and other clutch issues!!!]

Hey brains trust. I'm switching from my current standard throw out bearing (on the left) to one of the wide face ones (on the right) that some describe as Heavy Duty.

But the new one on the right is a loose fit on the plunger shaft. Ie there doesn't appear to be any play, but it slides off by itself under its own weight.

I'm a bit worried about using it...will it fall off? ... Will it remain touching the clutch instead of coming away with the shaft?

Anyone with good experience with this have any advice? I'm in the shed now trying to figure out what I should do...

is it this one? https://minikingdomonline.com.au/produc ... face-type/

the manufacturing spec mightn't have included the correct interference fit...

if it's a good fit like you say, some loctite 620 retaining compound should hold it

Don't tell me this long awaited original style throwout bearing has been reproduced incorrectly in India or China?

Looks like that

Yep I got it from MKO, but most suppliers are stocking it now.

Correct, it looks like it's been manufactured for the right diameter without interference fit factored in.

Dammit, I should have thought of Lock Tite! Good idea. I'll do that thanks guys. I'll let John at MKO know (if he doesn't see this) just for his info.

Cheers :)

Sure it isn't the plunger shaft that's the problem?

That crossed my mind as well , i have 2 NOS original shafts , be interesting to see how it fits one of those .

I had that thought too. In fact, when I emailed John from MKO I did say that there is an outside possibility it is my plunger shaft.

However the non flat faced style I just took off was a perfect interference fit on my after market plunger shaft - snug enough to stay on, not overly difficult to get off.

There is the outside chance that:
* the original/early/genuine shafts fit the early/original flat faced bearings and the new flat faced bearings. and that
* the aftermarket plunger shafts fit the after market non-flat faced bearings and that
* the aftermarket plunger shafts with original-spec-newly-made flat faced bearings do not fit properly together

I do have an original plunger in a spare 998 I could check...it would mean pulling the bloody thing apart again :(

As do I. Visual and tactile inspection was that it was ... Okay. Not that feeling you get when you are holding a precision made bit of kit, but hopefully effective.

We have been contacted by a couple of customers regarding the possible problem with the new flat face bearings.

We can confirm that there is at least a .001" interference fit with our 22A180 plungers and our flat face bearings.

We have sold a large quantity of these bearings with no reported problems.

Are there are other inferior ones getting around or is it an issue with people using worn old plungers?

Mine is a Karkraft plunger but bearing came from elsewhere and it wanted to fall off under its own weight

I have a NOS Timken IR-127 flat release bearing here, and it's a very tight fit on a new plated Kc plunger.
Bore measures 0.6250" using my M&W telescopic gauge and accurate 0-1" Mitutoyo micrometer.
Somebody please measure the diameter of these new Asian ones... ;)
