Before stripping under side of old yella thought it would be a worth have the under side bituminous coating tested as there is conflicting advice if it contains asbestos as some do. So sent a sample off to be tested at Enviro Science and the report confirmed that there is no Asbestos is present. It only cost $80.00 per sample.
Mini is 1977 Leyland so may be different in earlier cars.

I did the same, as interior hessian underlay had a similar history with asbestos. My car was also free from asbestos.

Asbestos is hiding in many products that people don't realise. Better to be safe as asbestos related illness are not nice.
