Does anyone know what material the original 850 door striker was made of.
It's not magnetic, so must be an allow of some type ?

I don't know the exact contents, but striker plates (and the tongue in the latch side) were made from sintered metal, pressed into a mould and cooked. Lots of parts are made this way as complex shapes are possible where machining would be too costly. They are often extremely hard but not brittle, too.
Look up Wikipedia?
Not magnetic does not always mean there is no iron in it. Some stainless steels are magnetic - depending on the alloy contents.
