Has anyone experienced rebuilding a 22G846 gearbox with the contents of a 22G1128 gearbox, in other words has anyone turned a 22G846 gearbox into a Mk2 4 synchro gearbox and if so what are the results. I ask the question because everything I have found on google says it is possible and I am thinking I will give it a go.

What is the aim of this? They are both 4 synchro gearboxes, the 22G846 just seems to be an earlier casting?

I have rebuilt both they are practically identical.
I have also put A series early rodchange gearsets into 22G1128s, everything is the same except the reverse idler gear.

the only 4 synchro remote gearbox casings I've come across have been 22G1128

Simon,
The one I rebuilt was out of a pov pack clubby 1100 I think.
It had the puddin stirrer long gear lever.

I have pics of 2. One was listed as a Pov Pack clubman and the other as a Morris1100. Info was from the sellers on Ebay.

I just picked one up last week. Previous owner put in a cooper s gearset in, central oil pickup and magic wand shift! Perfect for my 66 vans engine build! 8)

Is the reverse idler gear from a rod change box interchangeable with a remote change 4 synchro box?

No, they are different.

Remote: 22G1034
Rod (pre A+): 22G1852

Re the use of Cooper S MK2 gears in a 4 synchro remote or rodchange box:

The 18T 1st motion shaft and 22G1040 cluster gear are getting scarcer and expensive now.
An alternative at around 1/2 the price is keep the original gears, and fit a 3.1:1 diff.
This gives you the same 1-2-3 gearing as an S, but a taller 4th. Better cruising on the motorway. :)
Edit typo

Has anyone experience in using CLASSIC MINI - REVERSE GEAR STRAIGHT CUT - C-22A1736 in lieu of 22G1034. Are there any differences apart from the tooth count.

They go good. I run the same spec under my 1360.
