I think I have an early Mk2 Cooper S *1969* but the radiator shroud has been butchered for an electric fan. Everything else points to it being legit. How can I prove I have what I think I have? |

In addition to the dozens of differences to a Mini K body, 2/06 xxx in the gutter above the wiper motor will point to it being a MK2S. You wont be able to tell what the chassis number is by this number. Only a rough estimate 500 more than the gutter number. |

The gutter number appears to be xx9 2/06. |

Does it have the 4 rivet holes for a square 1970 ADR plate? |

There are no signs of rivet holes behind the power brake booster. |

I would say they were drilled by hand in Jan 1970 from around car YG2S4 1420 The 2 firewall holes were punched out when the panel was pressed. Looking at my pics they stopped punching out those 2 holes around YG2S4 2300 - 2400. |

Here is a similar car to yours where Mike had a missing radiator shroud. viewtopic.php?t=79628 This one has the body number 934 2/06 probably making it a car in the YG2S4 1400s. Attachment: YG2S4 1400s 934 2-06.jpg Because this one has the 4 ADR plate holes it would most probably be a Jan 1970 car which started around YG2S4 1420. I am not sure how much of your radiator shroud still survives but they stamped the chassis numbers in 3 different areas. The font size also changed. These are examples of the 3 types so you can focus on the correct area. |

I would strip of the rest of the paint and make sure there are no other stampings. The "YG2S" was a single stamp and very uniform. It was the lightest of the stamps and did not make much of an indentation. The "4" was a separate stamp and made a deep indent. On early cars the 3 digit car number was a larger font and made a deep indent. Here are a few to compare with.
