Same here in Qld. My '69 Mk2 was YG2S5. Qld Transport changed it for me, but I missed the extra zero on the engine number. The rivet Mark was mistaken for a zero. It's under resto at the moment and unregistered. Here's hoping I don't have any issues with re-registering.

Next Update:
Emailed RMS with photos of numbers on the firewall and copies of documents, pointing out the discrepancy between what is on the car and their recorded chassis number.

A Vehicle Identification Officer from RMS arrived at our house to see the car. He photographed the numbers on the radiator shroud first, again from the side of the car so the numbers were upside down. The number is 0699 - ie the 699th car assembled; but reads 6690 when upside down. (There were not 6690 Mk 1s made.)

After a long conversation and references to Stephen Dalton's articles identifying Mk1s, he eventually agreed that the firewall number and Car Number on ID plate was the correct Chassis number and their records were incorrect.

The RMS officer rang me next day to say there were several vehicles with the same 1197 chassis number, including a registered MGB, meaning I couldn't have the same number as it.
His solution was to include YKG2S2 as a prefix to 1197 so the car kept its original number. When I asked if this YKG2S2 number now had to be stamped onto the car, he was vague and thought that would spoil the originality of the car.
He sent an email logging this new chassis number and details of RMS records for future confirmation.

I now need to get another blue slip with the new chassis number on it.
Also waiting to hear that he has changed RMS records to show the new number as well.

Breathtaking stuff...they are going to get (No! they already have got themselves) into a right pickle with all these "made up" numbers and obviously at the expense of genuine owners...who cares if car 1197 is attributed to seventeen different models of car??? That's why you have all the other information that makes up the identity of any car...I need to go and lie down

From my conversation with this RMS officer, it is clear they are trying to get all vehicles into the VIN system where every vehicle has a discrete number.

That's fine..but that number should be in the background in the database and transparent to the man/lady in the street...he/she should have his/her cars identifying marks and numbers accurately recorded on the rego papers...

That’s an interesting concept.... where would all the (eehem) rebodied (aka - fake) Cooper Ss go to hide....

Every vehicle does have a “unique identifier”... comprised of the combination of Make/Model/stamped marks on body. All of which can be changed with various degrees of difficulty. ..and various degrees of traceability.

The VIN is an administrative convenience; nothing more.

Cheers, Ian

Firstly - The car looks fantastic.

Secondly - Why did they list it as the F56. Isn't that the new MINI model.

Oh What?!
I don't understand what F56 means? I have no knowledge of that code.
Where did that data come from?

Thats just what comes up on a rego check.
F56 is a model of the newer MINI.

I really hate dealing with the 'certainty' of modern data systems.
Issues like this are probably why the car was given the wrong chassis number in the first place.
I appreciate your attention to detail and, with a heavy heart, thank you for pointing this out!
Another day on the phone.....

I didn't want to come across as being picky but i know how much effort you have already put in getting it correct and I thought the F56 looked out of place. Hopefully its an easy fix.

I'd expect it should be listed as a '1966 Morris Mini sedan' or just '1966 Morris sedan'.
It's likely the person entering the data on the screen has gone looking for 'Mini' in the list instead of 'Morris' and chosen the one that looked closest.

These are the sort of issues we have to deal with when the car is older than the person in control of the data entry :-)
