Hi All, I'm wondering if anyone has a general timeline for the Australian map pressed rocker covers, and were there any other types than these? Cover 1: With curved breather - I'm guessing the earliest one? Cover 2: Plain, no breather used with a PCV system? Cover 3: Baffled breather (I have also seen the breather outlet facing the other direction) - from late cars with the breather going into the carb Cheers |

Matt I wrote: My March 69 Mini K had the rocker cover with the. Baffled breather and Australian embossing. Thanks Matt. That's a bit earlier than I first thought This one is from an add for a 1970 K, the breather outlet is the opposite side of the baffle to my one above Attachment: ebay278254.jpg

Wow. It's almost 11 years since I raised this topic for discussion. Some possibly inconclusive replies included. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=37282 |

A knowledgeable member has told me the embossed map on the 850 rocker cover came with the introduction of the 8Y prefixed engine in 1964. The BMC Australia standard for this marking was introduced in July 1964. Attachment: Page A17-1 MOWOG marking wm.jpg Attachment: Page A17-2 MOWOG marking wm.jpg

Thanks Doug. I had been looking through lots of photos this morning and come to a similar conclusion. I guess it would have been fitted to the Morris 1100 as well, and the Cooper? There is a change listed in John Sneddon's book in 1966, so possibly this is when they moved to the baffled cover. I will double check the part numbers when I get a chance. My car had the rocker cover from the top photo when I got it. It's possible it's the factory cover given it had an 8Y engine factory fitted... So updated estimate: Type 1: 1964 to 1966 Type 2: 1967 onwards? Morris 1100S and GT Type 3: 1966 till the imported engines started again. The baffle outlet side changed between 1969 and 1971 |

That's good information. It does allow for no mention of Austin and other marques. |
