I'm looking for a detailed image of the printing on the Smiths Petroflex Cooper S oil cooler hoses. It's hidden on the image below. Attachment: 13h3817-hose-reduced.jpg

That was quick. Should've known you would have something. Yep, that's great, thank you. |

I've sent some final prototypes to a few colleagues for feedback but so far they have come out very well. They'll certainly do the job on my hoses which was the original intention. They comprise short lengths of yellow heat shrink tubing stamped with permanent solvent ink. After stamping and drying for two minutes I'm unable to smudge the inked impression by hand wiping so it should be a good permanent solution. The yellow tubing is a slightly lighter colour than the originals but probably not noticeable once installed in the engine bay. When I hear back from the testers with a positive verdict I will offer these to the Mini community. I think $25 for a pair of labels including postage is reasonable and will help recoup the development and production costs. Does that sound fair? They look really good Doug. Great work. Are these the same for the Clubman Gt or are they the alloy ones? |

Scoop wrote: Are these the same for the Clubman Gt or are they the alloy ones? The GT oil cooler hoses had aluminium tags that were stamped freehand AYG2272. As you can see all 3 of these are slightly different. Attachment: AYG2272 Aluminium Tags.jpg Oh yes and great work Doug. |

Those GT tags look much more robust than the yellow plastic ones so I wonder if most have survived, making this not such a big issue for fussy GT owners. In any case there could be an opportunity for someone with sheet metal skills and stamps to make those for cars where they are missing or damaged. Of course all of this is mainly of interest to those of us with the illness that gets us hooked on researching the minute detail of original cars. I'm probably one of those who some people call a "rivet counter", maybe meant in a derogatory way. If the result is increased knowledge for the benefit of the Mini scene I take it as a compliment. Unlike some other car marques we at a real disadvantage by not having historical factory records. |

Unlike some other car marques we at a real disadvantage by not having historical factory records. I believe the rivet counters are a much needed - dare I say necessary evil to prevent the originality of these cars being lost. As the years go by our cars get abused, stripped, rebuilt by backyard mechanics, sold and resold and abused more by folks that are unaware or don't care about originality. Trying to find a one owner or unrestored car is getting harder and BMC mechanics from the 60s and 70s with first hand experience are getting thin on the ground. |
