ausmini :: View topic - Engine paint detail

Looking for the paint details for a Mk 2 Australian Cooper S Engine.
I understand that most of the engine and gearbox was painted in the Australian metallic green.
Would anybody have more about the detail of parts painted for example was the water pump pulley painted yellow? etc.
Looking at repainting the engine so would like to get the detail correct.
Any photo's would be good as well.

There are not many pics of an original MK2 S engine bay getting around. Modern Motor June 1970 did a road test on a MK2 S rego AMP324. I only have an engine bay pic taken from the Ebay sale of the magazine and it is very blurry. However it shows the top radiator bracket in the engine colour.

All of the fan pulleys are black.

There should be some overspray on the alternator plastic brush cover, the dipstick and the starter motor too, from memory!

From memory, top radiator bkt, solenoid mounting bkt, clutch slave cylinder were all the same colour as the engine. Coil bkt was coated silver. Water pump pulley black.

Thanks so far for the photo's and details to date The water pump pulley was one that I was unsure about. I thought it may have been the same colour as the engine. If you think there are any further details please let me know. Cheers

I think earlier cars got a yellow pump pulley but later it just got black. There’s an old film doco called horses to horsepower on the Aust Zetland factory. It shows an A series being painted. They did a pretty rough job. Thru an auto spray booth, few rough cardboard covers on the plugs and dissy. Note the colour pic above they simply painted the plastic oil filler cap. Looking thru old magazines and brochures is the best way to research stuff like this.

Thanks to everybody for there help and input. Great photo's also. Would someone have the colour code or details to mix the correct engine colour. Metallic Green. I don't think shipping paint from Australia is an option so if I had the detail's I'd get it done here. I also don't have an original sample to colour match A big thank you too Doug for his sample of the inner cooper s wheel colour ( Primer ). Cheers.

I have just had a small tin of metallic green mixed at a local Motospray outlet. They included the formula, which is in their Auto Enamel line. I don't know if NZ has Motospray brand - it was owned by Hi-Chem and now by Rustoleum, which is in NZ. But the formula for this colour can't be used with a different brand. The engine green metallic is very, very, very similar to an old 1970s Chrysler/Mitsubishi(Aust) colour called Sherwood Green (Met.) which might be easier to track down. It looks like this.

What colour is the engine steady bar and associated fitting bracket at the engine end? Looks to be bare metal.

The bar is natural, zinc plated; the brackets (obscured by the heater tap) are satin black but the 2 bolts and spacer washer on engine end (just visible) are also zinc.
