You spend so much time and money to make a great looking car and some new parts fall apart in a matter of months.

Yep! Know the feeling. Front suspension bump stops, lower control arm bushes. I have not looked at the front caster strut rubbers, probably falling apart too.

This issue has been mentioned on many occasions and is still a problem. Does anyone know of a source for "quality" fuel tank filler neck grommets? On my rebuild I fitted 2 new grommets last year. By mid 2018 they were perished and I replaced both. The photos show the replacements: LH one is still OK; the RH one looked perfectly good when fitted about 3 months ago. Now look at it! The car has been in a garage the whole time! I have bought these from various outlets and can't criticise them as they get what their suppliers give them. Does anyone have RECENT experience buying these grommets? It only has to be more than about 12 months, which seems to be the half life of this rubbish!

I noticed the same, your deteriorating one is a bit puffier than the other one. I got one of the flatter ones and it’s lasted well so far

The rubber handbrake gaiter on rear brake drums is another instance. These were replaced twice in one year during the rebuild, and need to be changed again after 8 months... so frustrating!

I have ordered 2 from Scott's Old Auto Rubber. Bought 1 from them for the rebuild but don't remember which one and whether it lasted. They are dearer than most other sources so will keep an eye on their survival.

I feel your pain. I'm on my third repro fuel tank filler neck seal in five years and this is a restoration that has not left the garage yet! Also perished ball joint rubbers on brand new ball joints that were only assembled last year.... Grrr! In an attempt to solve the ball joint rubber problem I have just purchased a couple of sets of rubbers from Catmint in the UK that are apparently made of an OEM quality compound and are meant to be much better. They feel much more robust but I haven't used them yet. Will report back in due course. Can't help with the tank rubbers. Interested if anyone has a lead on someone with decent quality ones.
