Hey guys,
About to pic up a 1970 mini with a 1275 (VERY EXCITED!). Have a fair drive to get it home and just putting a survival kit together for the trip. Do you rate the Penrite Classic Mini oil as a good one to use?

Will continue to use it afterwards also for regular maintenance if its any good?

Cheers
Simon

I've changed to Penrite HPR30 mineral oil recently and I've found it really good. It has better oil pressure than before (although it is rated as a thicker oil 20W/60). I've not tried the mini specific one

According to the specs, the HPR30 has more zinc content than the mini specific oil. Zinc is a necessary additive for a mini which shares the gearbox and engine oil

I would be going over a few things like Brake System, Cooling System, Engine running/oil (if the oil falls off the dip stick it could be diluted with fuel etc) before hitting the road...and obvious rattles like CV Joints when you do tight, slow figure of 8s in an empty carpark should ring alarm bells.

I have been using HPR30 too. Started with the Mini Classic version but it isn't carried by many places. Worn gearbox in one mini is far better now with HPR30.

I'll go with the HPR30 Mineral then, seems easier to get too, as you mentioned Bill. Thanks all :)

Me too, also moved onto Penrite this year after using Valvoline before, HPR30 20/60 mainly because of its stated high zinc content.

I don't mind either HPR 30 or 40. The heavier HPR 40 makes my gears a little stiff for the first dozen miles or so until the oil warms up, but its pretty damn cold in the ACT.

Amen to that, I'm also in the ACT. Way too bloody cold! lol
