Hi All

I have been driving my 4EFTE conversion mini for more than 100,000 kms since purchasing it over 10 years ago and would like to take it to a workshop to give it a good once-over.

Thinking they might check, adjust, update, re-set: steering, suspension, alignment, possibly check roll-center and even give me a recommendation on wheels/tyres to run as the 13x7's I have with wide offset may be counter productive for good handling. I could do with new flares for the leyland body and if they are capable take the 4EFTE engine out to replace oil seals and have a general look around at any other things that could be attended to in the meantime.

I am well out of date with the workshops who would do this mini-related work and would be pleased for any recommendations (even if they won't do the 4EFTE engine work).

I am also looking for 2x 12 or 13 inch wheels/tyres to borrow to get me through rego before I book this in - so I can get the recommendation from the workshop on which wheels/tyres to purchase for the best handling/grip going forward.

Thanks in advance, Ray

As a start there's a list of Mini businesses here - viewtopic.php?f=41&t=83593

From the list of NSW businesses per the above link that appear to do servicing and not just parts, does anyone have a suggestion from the below short list for the type of work I described above (a full once-over and comprehensive review/set-up of the steering/suspension/handling)? And if they might also be able to complete or coordinate new oil seals in the 4EFTE motor?

- Allan's Classic Minis (Penrith)
- Graeme Lord (FairyMeadow)
- Ken Elder & Sons (Kogarah)
- Mini and Moke World (Brookvale)
- Mini Classic (Ermington) (Greig Malaure)
- Mini King Australia (Mulgrave for spares, Narellan for repairs/tuning)
- Russell Engineering (North Rocks)
- Truckstuff (Merrylands)

I'd suggest one of these two, I'd ring Greig first... though they might avoid the motor and suggest you take it to a Toyota guru for that.

I think it might pay to look for a good 4EFTE tuner separately

Some of the names on the list you may need to mortgage the house before handing over the car...

Having said that, there a few clever people on the list...

Thanks for the heads up. I am already happy with the existing 4EFTE build/tune, I only need the oil seals done, which was why I was hoping a mini mechanic might be willing to at least go that far.

Repairs or anything get expensive when (with few exceptions) you ask someone to do something they don't know about even if it doesn't seem that bad...
Ask a mini mechanic about a mini with a 4efte and the motor will scare them, ask a Toyota mechanic and they will probably be scared of both the mini, the 4efte and the fact thier computer doesn't know a thing about it...

I think your best chance of getting it done and retaining both you kidney's is to pull the engine yourself send it to an import motor specialist perhaps and get the mini specialist to tackle the suspension assuming it's relatively conventional.

HI Mr Anderson
Out of all the people on that list I would ring Greig first at Mini Classic as he served his time at Toyota and was apprentice of the year very good on all late model cars.

Very noble of you Graham, given that you are listed as one of the recommendations. Not often seen in this day and age.

Think I see what you are saying...but it is the main reason I suggested leaving the 4EFTE and its ECU to a Toyo tuning expert...but if its running fine, don't fix it!! :)
