Is there any way to test a temp gauge to check if is working ? Also anyone got one for sale that works ?

Yes...put the kettle on and grab your multimeter...or, dunk the sender on the end of the capillary tube in...(and see what happens)

Cooper S gauge is electric. Put 10 or 12VDC across it and it should read full scale.
If you have the sender and the voltage stabiliser you can hook it up with sender in boiling water. It should read H then.
