There are 2 types of rubber seals, the one that arrived today is different than the original, the original is like the door seal the other one is just rubber .Which is the best ? Bought from Karcraft Allen. TY |

The rear quarter seals for a 1970 S is ALA5897. They are extruded rubber in one piece. This was originally fitted to my 1970 S and 1969 K but were unavailable for some time. If from Karcraft it will be described as 'original'. They sell both types. The alternative is a later 2-piece seal with a plastic pinch-weld section glued to a sponge rubber seal PAM1019. I have fitted both - they both work well but the one you have bought is correct for your car. |

Original works better over time than the sponge one. |

Just looked at Minispares UK who list PAM1019 (2-piece seal) as NLA and refer to EAM7724 - but that is for Mk3 on. I'm not certain but Mk3 might have a different sized rear quarter light. What Allen received might be all that's available now. As drmini said, the 2-piece units had a habit of ungluing themselves over time. |

Where is the best place to put the two ends together, at the centre top of the window or bottom section? Does anybody put a bead of silicone between the hinge and window frame? cheers |

I put the join on the top edge under the gutter. Water does get under the seal and causes rust spots along the lower edge. I think there was originally some butyl mastic type sealer under the hinge as it would help protect the screw holes from water. |
