Hi All,
I've got myself a mini that I'm working on restoring.... Pics to come that i'll add using the app...
The shell is off getting grit blasted at the moment and will come back showing all its flaws and holes!
It will arrive back to me cleaned and sprayed in etch primer....
The next stage is to fill all the holes by replacing panels and filling with new metal.
Once I've got all the holes filled and relevant panels replaced I wanted to know what to do next....

I need to say that I am not a mechanic and am certainly not a panel beater.

Do I then get the shell grit blasted again and then sprayed in 2k primer?
Then do body work?
Then do body sealer?
Then colour?

When should I fit the doors, boot and bonnet? before the final colour? or after?

Any help would help on what to do when would be awesome.....

Brendon

The best way is not to use etch primer unless you are painting acrylic lacquer.2 pak epoxy primer is best then do all the repairs and touch up with 2pack epoxy primer then sand and paint in a good 2 pac colour preferably jet red .Body filler can be applied over the 2 pac epoxy primer you have to sand the epoxy with 240grit.Use the soft body filler for better adhesion and durability. Also use weld through primer on all joins before welding ,available in pressure can copper or zinc. Underbody ,use stone guard not the crappy proofcote, new cars use stone guard it looks like the original finish, colour over the top.2 pac paint should be applied in a spray booth Not cheap but worthwhile for great results. Hope this gives you a rough idea. Good Luck.

What they all said!
Don't bother with etch primer, use epoxy primer as it will seal it off better.

Looks good, have fun.

I have always wondered if ute bed liner products LineX or Rhinoguard would be suitable for the underbody.

Not a fan of Camino Gold, but it that is the original colour, yes! But put a black roof on it.
A friend of mine has Mini Special originally from NZ. It is painted in a colour similar to Camino Gold, I think it is Arabian Sand and has a black vinyl like roof, looks great.

Will definitely not be going Camino Gold.... reminds me too much of the colour of my kids poos when they were in nappies!
