Simon, I did look at this very thing, and the inner CV joint does appear to be running rather strangely! I must admit I didn't try to stop them though to see what both sides were doing. I'll do this tonight and check. Cheers

thinking about the diff, I considered that maybe the whole diff assembly is sitting at an angle in the housing, but it couldn't be that as the output shafts would keep a constant angle...

it's really only possible that the output shafts are flopping around - maybe it's just that the fibre washers have collapsed - but you'd be able to move the output shafts up/down/back/forward/in/out by hand

I'd love to be there to see what it's like when you pull it apart

where do you live? (your profile doesn't have a location)

If the driveshaft is orbiting in the pot joint (inner CV) it may have mismatched parts.
There are 2 inside diameters, depending on how old and where made. Small inner spider will fit into big CV but it doesn't drive properly. As I found out...
Diameter difference is around 1.5 mm or so.

I'm in Perth, WA so a fair hike!!

Now I'm into the diff side of things my problems are Toyota related! Gearbox is a C52 variety. The inner CV joints are Toyota too!
On the back of my setup I have a half shaft (jack shaft?) which I have noticed is also oscillating. I have also now removed that too and clocked
it and believe it to be running true.

The engine removal starts tonight!!

lol - you should have said that it was a toyota engine from the start - straight away the response would have been "the problem is at the Toyota end, it couldn't possibly be a problem with the mini parts!!"

I'm wondering if it could be related to the driveshafts being a little bit long and under bump are running out of room to move inside the inner CVs?

Just I didn't find it all that easy to accurately measure how long the driveshafts should be...

So is it the LSD box with equal length driveshafts...or not?

Billet driveshafts or welded?

LOL - apologies
I thought it was in my signature/profile !

TBH - I was so convinced that the CV joints (inner & outer) would eliminate any misalignment from the gearbox,
especially at the low speed, that I thought it could only be the hubs!

Driveshafts are welded, they have been checked on a machine lathe and pretty close to true.
The problem hasn't always been there so I am pretty sure the driveshaft length is OK. I did check it again though
and I've got around an inch (at inner CV joint) of clearance at normal ride height.

The gearbox is a C52 so it is not LSD but has a half shaft(?) on the back. The driveshafts are equal length from
the inner CV joints to the hubs.

An inch of movement in or out on the inner CV? With the lower arm about horizontal should be as 'long' as the driveshaft needs to be, full droop and full compression should be shorter than this. normal ride height is generally with the lower arm pointing up a little towards the centre...

What about the halfshaft or perhaps the carrier bearing on the back of the block?

What about #432 - engine is not mounted parallel and/or at right angles to fwd direction of road wheel alignment :?:

no - that couldn't cause this issue - whatever angle the outputs from the gearbox is at remains the same, the driveshafts keep that same angle, the outer CVs keep the same angle

This issue is caused by something constantly changing angle

Just an update, I have the engine and gearbox out and am now having a friend do a minor rebuild of the gearbox!
Hopefully will have some more information soon.

I did check the halfshaft and it seems to be true with the carrier bearing in good condition also.

It could be some type of carrier in the diff or the diff output which is moving, I guess I'll find out soon!!

Thanks for all the helpful ideas!
