There was one for sale on eBay last year which needed a full resto. Factory black 850’s in any condition are unusual to see

I don't think they are particularly rare , I have seen quite a number over the years , my brother bought a brand new black Mk1 S back in 1966 , its still around in Perth and my mate had a nice black 850.The survival rate is probably no worse than other colours either , although quite a few had the black painted over in another colour , black seemed to go out of fashion back then

I had a black 850. I sold it to a guy in the US a few years ago.

I had a look through my pics of 850 ID plates and out of 270 ID plates there are 10 Black cars. Most of the pics were taken in the past 10 years from for sale adds and the plates are still riveted to cars so presumably the cars still exist now.

I believe you could easily double or tripple that number with cars that were not put up for sale in the past 10 years.

Whether they are matching numbers is another question.

From what I’ve seen Black was an option over the whole 850 production run. Every other colour was only available for a year or two.

So it’s possible it was the least popular colour over the longest amount of time?
