Just wondering whats the best programmable ignition I should use.

I would like to be able to lower the initial advance on start up and then once started reset it to what I am running

Accuspark stealth was available a while back but that seams to have ceased being made

whats its replacement

My friend James has a CB performance unit. It’s much more modern that the accuspark unit and you can tune live, and also do vacuum advance

Not sure of the CBperformance units data transfer system. looks to be Windows based software - not sure if greater than XP ( stealth box limitation in my opinion) AND serial port to plug into - about 10 years out of date in my opinion. Not knocking the device, just suggest checking current capacity to support current technology. cheers D

It works with newer versions of Windows:
- Easy to use Windows-based Software (requires XP, Vista, 7, 8 or Windows 10)

And a USB adapter is available.
- Serial Cable Included (some computers may require #2015 USB to Serial Adapter)

It works really well on his car. Mine has the accuspark and I need to keep an ancient laptop in the garage just for tuning

Chong (`lillee' on here) runs the CB one too, after his Accuspark black box died. Was a bit tricky to set up but is running fine now.

If you want an Accuspark contact 'Convertible Mini', he said recently he could still get them.

Thanks for the replies. I will look into the CB box.

I am trying to reduce the intial advance at start up. running about 20 degrees static all in at 33 degrees at 3500 rpm. runs like a cut cat but hard to start. killed another starter so need to do something about it.

I've been using the Swiftune version of the CSI with great success - it has no advance until it's running, so that should get you sorted

I currently run an accuspark. Before that like you I had 20° static advance and a pulsar dizzy.
After breaking a few starter pinions I fitted an ignition kill switch. Crank motor with switch off then flick it on. :mrgreen:

You can also get basic “ignition retard” boxes if your only concern is starting. Normally they are used for timing correction for NOS or forced induction, but I’m sure you could use one to retard during starting and then switch it off once running?

I use this on my supercharged motor, can do anything you want to the advance curve. A & A+ version

Have to agree Stuwey, we have one of the Swiftune CSI versions as well...We currently have it set on 14 (1-16 Advance Curves) until we put the car on the dyno.

I have now replaced my Accuspark black box and Bosch GT40 coil with a Peak Ignition high energy system from Lindsay Seibler.
It uses mechanical advance (I supplied curve needed), the ignition module and coil provide a higher energy spark with automatic dwell control and about 20° spark duration.
Compared to my black box, it starts easier, runs smoother and has way more torque between 3000 and 5000 than before. From 5000-7500 it's slightly better.

(Edit) timing marks sit steady as a rock under timing light, was not so with the black box.

I will add Peak Ignition's details to the supplier list.

There are 2 versions:
Road $495.

Race $700. This has a bigger custom coil and fixed advance. In use by some well known nB Mini pilots.

Yes I ran a Pertronix 1 module in a 43 D dizzy for years.
After I graduated to a modified Nissan Pulsar dizzy I bought a Pertronix 2 complete non- vac distributor.
However its advance curve was totally unsuited to my engine, so I sold it and went back to the Pulsar.
