Hello! First post here after years of reading and learning.
I have a '76 'S' which is just a mild 998 bitsa, but it's nevertheless good fun and my current daily driver.
Just wondering if it should have a high beam flasher from factory? My column stalk is the push-for-high-beam, with the end button for the horn, but you can also pull it in which does nothing.
I can't find anything in the manual about a flasher function at all, but then I don't know if that's an original column stalk setup for a '76...?

Thanks,
Jeff.Image

No they did not have a pull to flash function. It was disconnected to meet the road rules at the time even though the other car makes kept it.

There is a bit of info in these threads -

Thanks Winabbey for posting these factory documents.

Most 'modern' cars have a spring-loaded flasher switch function on the headlight stalk that will flash mainbeam even if the lights are not turned On. In daylight, without other lights turned on, the flasher is useful for a quick warning or acknowledging signal to others.

The mini stalk has that spring-loaded function included but even if the wiring was reconnected it would not work the mainbeam unless the light switch on the panel was already On. It would need to have a separate power supply to flash like a modern car.

Thanks for the quick replies and links to further reading.
I tried the suggested method of jumping 12v+ from the fusebox to the terminated purple wire at the switch, but had no luck getting the stalk to flash.
My car has somewhat hacked up wiring, so who know's what's going on under the dash. Alternatively, the switch itself might be rooted.
Nevertheless, thank you for the answers.

from memory it needs the 12v fed in, and the output wire just goes to the high beam. You do need relays to do it, otherwise the stalk will cook itself pretty quick

Flashers illegal in the 70's? I didn't know the "nanny state" went back that far.
Maybe Mr Plod was annoyed by others warning oncoming traffic of speed traps.

You know, I've always wondered why the wires were cut off the Mini switches. I bought a secondhand Triumph one once. It was identical to the mini one except for having the wrong style of connector. The flasher wires were all there still.
