All mini points gaps are .015inch (about 0.4mm) which should give a dwell angle of 60 degrees.

I think he's talking about the gap at the base of the shaft next to the red arrow that determines how much the shaft moves up and down. ;)

DOH!
Didn't see the arrow!!
Just checked 2 overhauled distributors 29D: one was 0.011inch; other was 0.013inch.

Is that better?

Just measured my gap at 0.041 inch. Does it need another washer?

Up to .015" is fine but no more because the spindle jumping up and down will damage the Rotor and Cap. All you need is a gap for oil.

I have removed the base plate and wonder if it is supposed to rotate? I ask because it seems stuck.

The distributor in Cooper S does not have vacuum advance, only centrifical advance where the 2 springs attach to the points cam and respond to engine revs.
If vacuum advance was included, it would cause one of the base plates to swivel over the other fixed plate.
Since it doesn't have vacuum advance, the plates have been locked together, as the factory used the same parts for both distributor types.
In other words, the 2 plates are not meant to move in S distributors.
p.s. Hope I got it right this time.

Larry,
You might be interested in this Ausmini topic some years ago, including Lucas part numbers for the springsets in AYG0175.

Apart from the brass or composite washer in the above picture there is another washer which looks like nylon I require. Does anyone know where these are available.
