 Post subject: fuel gauge check 1970 cs

How do check if the fg is working mine is not, new sender unit in tank installed ,seems to wired correctly.

Earth out the power wire going to the sender and the fuel gauge should read full. If the fuel gauge goes to full then you have a fuel sender or sender earth problem.

If the fuel gauge doesn't move after earthing the power wire then check there is 10v at the power wire.

If there is no power to the sender then check the gauge is connected to the voltage stabilizer.

The temperature gauge and fuel guage are powered from the (I) terminal on the voltage stabilizer.

If the fuel gauge is connected to terminal 1, the voltage stabilzer is almost certainly the culprit. There was a very good article on this site a long time ago about replacing the original thermal stabilizer with a solid state device. This would eliminate any future stabilizer problems and increase reliability.

I second this, installed a solid state stabiliser (available from a member on here named Wombat) and it works perfectly. No issues whatsoever since!
