Hi there

I have a reconditioned 1275 engine and box that I purchased from a deceased estate and it has a few oddities that I am not sure of.
It is an 1100s block, it has an 11 bolt 12g940 head on it (with the recesses for the su locating rings) and it has a 22g1128 remote box with hardy spicers and a switch on the front of the box. Further research indicates that it is a GAE131 reverse light switch. Does anyone know if this switch was only for police coopers or if it was more main stream and I just haven't come across it before?

Cheers
Rick

It was used on Police Cooper S, also on Clubman GT and all other `Clubman shaped' cars, up until the rod change gearbox [in 1974?]

Note that the switch sold now under this GAE131 part number is off another British car and needs mods to work on a Mini box.

Ok. Thanks guys. Could be just a run of the mill 22G1128 box with Hardy Spicers then. Hoping it is a 4 syncro but time will tell. Stoked that it has a cooper head though with the larger inlet valves. It does have the ports tidied up with no casting marks/grain/roughness in there at all but they don't look to be opened up to any great degree. I can see brand new 20thou oversized pistons looking down the spark plug holes.
The deceased estate was for an ex BMC Zetland factory worker so looks like he knew what he was doing.

cheers
Rick

The box is a 4 syncro. Is there a serial number stamped into the front of the box? FAXe xxxx or 5/xxxx/2 or 21/xxxx or 22/xxxx or 23/xxxx.

G'day gtogreen1969

serial number on the box is 22/3557

I just had a closer look at the head and it might not be a big valve after all.
There is no number stamped behind the thermostat that I can see . I took the rocker cover off and it says 12g940 but both numbers on each end are cut off by the pushrod holes so it more reads like 2g94. (must be an early casting thing as on the others that i have had you can clearly see 12g940).
It has 11 studs and markings of SM and under that what looks like I0F0 and to the right hand side A. It has double vale springs.
Appreciate the help

Cheers
Rick

22/xxxx is a gearbox serial number from a Clubman. It coincides with the YDO body number M2/22.

The 12G940 head was used on many engines and the casting had slight changes over the years. The 11 stud S head was stamped 12G1805 with 1.219" exhaust valves. 9 stud non S heads had 1.156" exhaust valves. Many people like to use non s heads to modify.

Ok thanks. So 4 syncro. That is a win.
It doesn't seem that the 1100s 12g940 had 11 studs. Like you said someone may have modified it.
I attached a pic to show the weird cutoff numbers.
