I am setting up the end float on a thin flange 1100 S 1275, with what appears to be the original small journal crank. With new thrusts, the end float is only about 1 thou. I am aiming for 6. The standard thrusts appear to be too thick. I did the same exercise on a spare 1100 S motor - same problem, I can only just get the thrusts in. Unfortunately I don't have the original thrusts for comparison. Were the original 1100 S thrusts the same as the std 1275 ones sold today, or were they a few thou less? I am happy to machine the thrusts, but I would like to know why this has come about. Any ideas much appreciated. |

Yes the ACL ones are often a bit too thick. You can sand the steel side down on a surface plate and some 180 wet and dry paper, I use WD 40 to lube it. If you are going to rev it over 6500 you want 5 or 6 thou end float. Get them surface ground on the steel side, it's quicker. The manual says 3 thou end float, I found it's not enough unless it's a bog stock road motor. The crank webs will grab the thrust washers at high rpm and overheat the centre main. I then had to get a crank reground. |

drmini, thanks for your comment. The new thrusts are ACL, so I will have them skimmed. |
