You may only see one or two per year listed on Gumtree, Facebook or Ebay. You could try and find a second hand one by ringing around the various Mini Shops or Howards or place a few wanted adds hoping someone has a spare. The speedo you are looking for is 54M2-1/12. There will probably be a few more come out of the woodwork if sellers see the price it went for. |

Crikey I thought I could get one for $100 as most of them have to be repaired, |

Realistically multiply that by 10 for a restored one. |

(trying to avoid a "shades of Grey" reference here). |

Apart from the Black and Grey background - The MK1 temp guage has a white scale marked C,N,H with a black mark at the C end and a red mark at the H end. There are 6 dots at different intervals under the scale and "Made in UK" at the bottom of the guage. It should be pointed out that the Mk I gauge above is either an Aus gauge or a later Mk I. The original Mk I speedos have a scale that stops at 120....much like the MK II version. Cheers, Ian |

If that's the case...then the picture above shows a MKI speedo in a MKII binnacle??? |

IIRC, the original 1071 S had a speedo that went to 120MPH without the extra marks to 130MPH. RonR |

I believe the Comet Grey faced ones came in with the MK II Series Minis and were made in Australia. This drawing showing the oil pressure gauge for YDO5 II would be the Mini K I reckon. Attachment: AYA9167 Oil Pressure Gauge YDO5 legend wm.jpg

You made me go and check.... The original S speedo is different from either of the above.... and is somewhat of a combination of both. Basically, its looks like the Mk I shown above but with the final tick on the scale centred under the 2 of 120, without the 2 orange jewels at 3 and 9 o’clock, with a green jewel at 12 o’clock - where it reads 60 with the number 60 being much smaller so it fits under the jewel. Also, as early Ss came with 3.76 diffs (and 7000 redlines) the change marks are at 30, 50 and 70. So, if you have an Oz car, looks like you’re going to need an Oz speedo.... Cheers, Ian |
