Hi
First post from me. I have a 1970 SPO41 Police Cooper S, complete with all the right gear - siren, police speedo, flashing light, 2 way radio etc, plus of course the engine mods (twin HS4's etc.)

A quick question - what are the contact points to buy for a 29D4 AYG175 distributor for this car and where can I buy them?
Thanks
pdpsing

Welcome pdpsing,
https://minisport.com.au/cooper-s-contact-points-23-a-25d-32-ounce may be what you want. Quite expensive, Cooper S Tax. Used to use these years ago, of late used whatever I could get locally.
I'm sure there will be a few members who will be most interested in your car.

Thanks for the quick reply. Tracked down a 54413568 set from the UK (as apparently originally fitted) for around 18 pounds, plus shipping, so works out about the same as the ones you suggest from Minisport. Better to go with the local supplier I think

Car has just spent the past 6 months having the body work restored and looks great (Crystal white)
Cheers

Hi pdpsing,
https://minikingdomonline.com.au/product/distributor-points-set-vented-suit-mini-1961-to-1974/
These look very similar.
BTW, I also own a crystal white mk2 1969 Cooper S.

Clive

Thanks again Clive. The Mini Kingdom points are certainly much cheaper and for a 29D distributor, but don't suggest the heavier spring featured with the Minisport points (although Minisport points are apparently for 23/25D distributor). Both have a different part number, so not the same.

To add to the confusion it seems that the Police spec points suggest that (Lucas GL568/ 54413568) had a wider fibre rubbing strip than standard MK II S points (54419946).

Great to hear that your "S" is the same colour. Fully restored?
Cheers
Paul

The SPO41 specs only stated the wide blade MK1 style points.

The 2 piece, 32 oz points have the wide blade rubbing block and are the correct ones to use. The original part number was Lucas 54413568, DSB109 or GCS111. The GCS3001 points at Minisport look correct as well and are probably a later reproduction.

Do you still have the white paint mark?

Thanks for the tip. Managed to pick up a set of GL568's from a guy in Adelaide following a tip from winabbey. Looks like minisport maybe the way to go in the future. Can't see the white spot, may have faded?

My 8/70 SPO is car 2375. Also "Crystal White".
The original distributor has been rebuilt and calibrated.
The white paint spot went with the degreaser but the witness mark remains.

My car is 2462, Sept 70. Is the white spot visible without removing the distributor? What carb needles are you running?

I thought I was using CP4 but my note book says I changed to DZ over 10 years ago.

Mine is the one in the image gtogreen posted above. Like others I've seen the paint spot is next to the part number and date embossing so should be visible in situ, perhaps with use of a light and mirror. The main section of the paint spot flaked off with a light touch as it wasn't meant to be permanent long term but the remaining signs are still visible compared to the body of the dizzy.

Thinking of trying BG with blue springs as suggested in the SPO41 specs. Any experience with these?
