After many years of the Queensland sun, it has take its toll on my interior sun visors. The foam has decayed and it has gone floppy.
Has anyone had any luck re-foaming the inside of the sun visors? I was considering buying spray foam and spraying it into the vinyl from where the bracket inserts.
Just wanted to know if any one has any other ideas?

Also wanted to show what a bit of warm water and massaging solvo soap can do to clean up white vinyl.

I have the same problem. Hope someone comes up with a fix.

That's exactly what I have considered doing but I haven't taken the plunge yet.

The steps I had in mind are:

1. Crush the remaining dry foam and try to remove it via a small slit in the vinyl seam that won't be easily visible when re-glued. Perhaps use a vacuum cleaner or other vacuum source. Not sure if this step is essential but I thought it best to work with as clean and clear an inside section as possible.

2. Make a frame consisting of two flat pieces of wood larger than the visor outside dimensions and spaced for the required visor thickness.

3. With the visor in the frame, spray the foam through an aperture and collect the excess forced out through the same or another exit point.

If you decide to try this please report back as I'm sure others are in a similar situation.

I guess others have found this: Newton Commercial has a range of upholstery that claims to be for Australian made minis.
They have several sun visor styles - some that I've never seen. One item looks like it has the correct pattern & colour for the Australian sun visor but unfortunately the visor is white on one side and black on the other. If they made the visor with the white pattern all-over it could be a source.
Then you still have to pay for them.

Interesting.

The picture they show of a white visor appears to be the correct pattern vinyl for our cars. However when you click on white in the drop-down ordering box the pattern is different. I wonder if the picture is simply showing a typical original visor and not the material pattern actually supplied?

I got confused on Newton Commercial's website.
I could be wrong but I think they have grey, white and black - none with the correct pattern for Australian minis although the black one might be suitable to an Australian moke (but not sure).
They also have a black/white one i.e. white on one side (with what looks like what we want) but with black on the other side. That means they have 2 whites each with different patterns. I don't know where Newton got the idea we had those extravagant fittings!
I also suspect that our sun visors were all sourced from UK despite Zetland having a complete upholstery unit.

Has anyone worked out how to refoam these sun visors?

Hello All,
I did a set of visors some time ago doing what Doug has described as his method.
They turned out ok but not perfect. I would make some changes if I were to have another go.
The old foam will blow out / suck out through the fixing holes( blow in one and suck out the other)
The Ply support frame needs to have a clear side so you can see where the foam tube is filling.
The filling foam can needs a flexible extension tube. You need to fill from the furtherest point and draw the tube out as it fills. It doesn't run and fill like I thought it would so just poking it in the fixing hole doesn't work.
It would have helped if I had an assistant to pull the trigger on the can while I guided the filling tube.
Work on some old cardboard cause it will go everywhere

I bought new ones from the UK 2 years ago they are great,not worth the time trying to repair them. same as original

Just some of us old retired folks like a challenge and something to tinker with.

Allen - that's a good solution for those not fussed with originality, but there some, like me, who like to preserve as much of the original trim as possible. A vehicle is only original once. A new set of reproduction visors would look out of place.

Here Is what I made to use but as I posted, I would make a clear panel instead of timber.
I've also included a photo of 1 I did just to fill in my day.
