Hi, today I turned off my ignition but unlike other days, the barrel outer chrome housing came away with the key. I have screwed the chrome housing back on but it seems a little loose. Is there something at the back that needs tightening & if so the best way to get to it. Can’t seem to find anything in my workshop manual. 69 Cooper S M2. Any advice appreciated

Behind the panel there is a half nut and washer that can be set to control the amount of thread on the ignition switch sticking out.
On the outside of the panel there is a thin wavy washer (just visible in the photo - against the panel); then the chrome sleeve; then the chrome lock nut with 2 slots.
The thin wavy washer provides some tension to hold everything tight.

Hope that's some help.

It appears it is the washer that is missing as I only have the sleeve & lock nut..... will have a good look around the floor where it has probably dropped. Until your reply I didn’t know it was missing so thanks for the reply
