Originally wanted "Aubergine". The colour card above doesn't do justice to it.
It is a rich, deep purple and looks like.... like... an aubergine.
Was only available in 1969-70 I think.[/quote]

Check out the car I saw at Gatton in 'Spotted'

Wonderful! Thanks "Stibbsy"

In 1969 I was 19 and my mother and I went halves in a car. I thought about a Corolla but my mother insisted it had to be a mini. She was rapt in them since seeing her first one in Royal National Park in the early '60s - blown away by their weird shape.
We wanted an Aubergine K with parchment upholstery, just like the one at Gatton.
They only had "Willow Green" with parchment; obviously no-one wanted "Willow Green". The salesman even knocked $100 off the price to move it!
Turned out to be a very reliable car for the last 50 years!

I have a Camino Gold Land Rover (series 1) and love the colour! It can also be filthy and still look clean haha, not that it matters much with the landy

Regarding Mini K, I've had mine (technically a Mini 1100, base model Mini K) for 11 years and for me actually prefer it over a Cooper S. I'm not afraid to use it (lots), get it dirty, park it in car parks, and generally enjoy it. More than I think I would if I knew I had so much $$$ invested in it. Still plenty of pep in the well sorted 1100 too..

Guys,

For a K1100 built after 1 Jan 1970, what ID plates should be attached.

I think that a square ADR plate should be attached, but was asking if a BMC plate should also be there?

I have seen the BMC plate that shows;
TYPE
CAR No.
ENGINE No.
COLOUR

Should this plate also be attached for a post 1 Jan 1970 car?

All very confusing to me....

Cheers,
Geoff.

I'm not sure which ADR plate was used after 1st Jan, 1970.
But the older BMC (BLMC) identification plate was not used on my mini K made around May, 1969. It had neither plate.

no, a post Jan '70 car shouldn't have the BMC plate, only the big square ADR plate on the crossmember

(a K produced prior to Jan '70 shouldn't have any plate at all)

The ID plate was ceased at car 711.

The Square ADR was started in Jan 1970 around car 5100/ 5200.

The firewalls continued to have the 2 ID plate holes present until later in 1970.

Thanks for the info....

If the BMC ID Plate ceased on car 711, do you know approx. when that was?
I'm assuming it must have been in April/May 1969.

Also as a matter of interest, do you know when this Plate was first affixed to a Mini?

Cheers,
Geoff.

The corresponding Mk1 S on that list was built in March 1969.

The first BMC Australia ID plate fitted to a mini was probably on the Morris Mini 850 YMA2S1 501 in April 1961.

I have only seen one Mini K ID plate and it is stamped as YMG2S1. They dropped the M for the MK2 range but if this ID plate is the norm then the first 210 Mini Ks went by YMG2S1 instead of YG2S1.

Many thanks....I've got a much clearer idea now.

Cheers,
Geoff.
