Guys,

After some comments from the Brains' Trust.....

A bit of history. I owned a Mk 2 Cooper S for a couple of years in 1971 through to 1973.
As a 19-21 year old, it was something special.

I've been looking at rekindling my Mini interest again and although I would love a Cooper S again, unfortunately the funds don't allow for this now, being the price that they are asking for now.

Would a K1100 be the next best alternative and how are they perceived in the Mini Community.

I think I would like a higher cc engine and the 1100 seems a good alternative.

Thoughts.....

Cheers,
Geoff.

A Mini K would be a great choice in my opinion. Being one of the MK II Mini Series it has a few little refinements that weren't present with the Mark 1, such as alternator instead of generator and extra gauges in the instrument binnacle. A 2 speed version of the wiper motor is also easy to fit if it doesn't have one already.

Having owned one from new, I think they are a good car. It is a 'happy' car and easy to drive. But they seem to be rare to find now despite about 13,000 production - maybe some have grown up to be mk2 Ss.

You can make a hot 1100 (+) for the cost of a 1275 block and caps. No brainer.

Thanks for the replies guys.

For a Mini K1100, if it has been converted from wet to dry suspension, would the value of it be affected on purchase or resale?

Cheers,
Geoff.

For the purest enthusiast every change from original affects the value of the car. Of course with rare models that command high prices the difference in dollar terms would be greater than with mainstream models like the DeLuxe, 850, Mini K, etc.

So, unless your intention is to acquire and preserve a factory original car I wouldn't consider a dry conversion as a big deal, especially if the car has been altered in other ways, like paint colour, engine size, brakes, interior trim, etc.

Agreed.....

If it was a Cooper S, then I think it would be more of an issue if it deviated from original.

Geoff.

Guys,

If the paint sticker has been removed previously, is there any other way of telling what the original colour was?

Cheers.

You could find a part of the car with original paint then compare it to the colour charts for that year. viewtopic.php?f=25&t=66469 Sometimes you have to look at the previous year or the following year.

Another vote for "Camino Gold".
My K is "Willow Green" aka "Army Drab", but I've learnt to live with it.
Originally wanted "Aubergine". The colour card above doesn't do justice to it.
It is a rich, deep purple and looks like.... like... an aubergine.
Was only available in 1969-70 I think.
