Thought I'd put this out there to get some feedback.
Here are some photo's of my old under bonnet fire wall mat/soundproofing. Not much of it left but I kept it from a number of year's ago when I found the car.

It would appear that there may be two type's of these that have been originally made. Mk 1 and then later Mk 2?

The one in my picture is a fine grain or maybe pin hole patten which was in my car date April 1970.

I have also seen a course grain fire wall mat which may be a later edition ???
The under felt would appear to be jute and about 10mm thick. Maybe the same as the carpet under lay.

My boot board is original but does not match the original fire wall mat. The boot board is of a courser grain.
Another interesting find is that my car has the early toe and heel mat rather than the later Mk 2 toe and heel mat.
Interested in your thoughts.

Iv'e also put a post on the Mk 1 forum to see if there is any other thought's.

You will have seen an image of my insulation and the response on the Mk 1 Forum that it's called Hardura.

The following supplier in Sydney claims to sell it (scroll down to 10th product in their vinyl list). I'll try to get a sample as it looks close to my original.

I don't know for sure but don't doubt that more than one type of material was used during the Australian production period. Yours looks genuine and authentic to me. I wonder of others can confirm.

I have also noted there is a clear difference between mk1 and mk2 firewall mats. The exact change point I am not sure.

That's pretty much the pattern I was thinking of and which I referred to in my original post on Mark's site. I wasn't going to contradict winabbey ..until i could find my original sample (fragments).... whose whereabouts are less obvious that they might have been some time ago.

My memory is that round noses had the fine pattern and I had always associated the coarser pattern with that fitted to various Clubman.

The original one belonging my Mk II was long gone by the time I acquired it.

Cheers, Ian
