Folks, did a search trying to find out if I can keep my original silver 850 speedo when I do the 1275 engine swap. But didn't come up with anything exactly. So just hoping that I can keep the 850 silver speedo and just swap over the speedo gear in the diff/gearbox? Or are they completely different?

Clip there is a calculator on the Guessworks site (UK gearbox specialist) that will let you figure out exactly what speedo drive gears you need - and he will be able to sell them to you too. Haven't had any dealings with them personally but they are highly regarded.
Cheers

There is discussion about similar issues here:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=74322

It includes a list of Smiths speedos used in minis and their Turns Per Mile.
Search Ausmini for "Speedo drive".
The Guessworks site has this too, as previously mentioned. So long as you reach "Guessworks" gearboxes and not Gessworks fashion accessories!

The 850 speedo is likely to be set up for a 3.7 diff primarily. There is a small variance for the tall tyres on an original car
