Been doing a few things to my Mini K to get it how I want it.
When bought it had this wooden binnacle:

I prefer the original look and picked this up at Vic Mini show a few weeks back:

Fitting the oil gauge was pain as the clamp has been shortened to take account of the extra thickness of the timber fascia. My temporary fix is not as good as I thought and the gauge rotated a bit.

Also seen here is the re-arranged switch panel. It used to go (L to R) Radio switch, headlamps, ignition, wipers, washers and the the choke on a separate bracket. Now it’s heater control, wipers, ignition, lamps, choke and then washers in a new Lucas switch on the bracket.

I have moved he radio to make it visible, the PO had hidden it far under the shelf which I initially liked, but since decided I wanted to be able to see it. I also wired it into the ignition rather than the separate switch on the switch panel.

A few weeks back I replaced the rear screen seal - probably the most annoying thing i’ve ever done on a car. My usual method of using a rope to pull the seal in did not work and a quick google revealed that the seal is fitted to the body first. Flipping the last few inches of seal required a lot of sweat, help from my kids, a good deal of under the breath swearing (kids present) and walking away. Fitting the locking bead was a cruise in comparison. My motivation to replace the perished windscreen seal has taken a massive dive since...

There was no secondary latch when I bought the car and assumed it was normal on Aussie built minis. Another quick google revealed this was not the case and closer inspection revealed that there used to be one. I didn’t want to wreck the paint by welding in a new one and always like the look of the works style strap so went with that instead.

As bought:

The final job was the disc brake conversion. Soon realised I did not have enough of the unusual tools, big sockets, spanners, dial indicators etc. When I totalled up the cost and compared it to a quote it soon became a no brainer, so Mini Makeovers did it for me while I was overseas with work.

Then of course there’s the ST minilites for the finishing touch.

A few more things to do - rear seat belts, that windscreen seal etc.

Cheers.

Very nice looking car. From a time when people weren't frightened to have bright coloured cars!

Nice machine :D

Is that a VW green?

PS the PO probably wanted to "hide" the radio from tea leafs...

Is it Tamarisk Green - original mini K colour?

Thanks for the kind comments.
Not sure what the green is - looks similar to Tamarisk on the colour cards but it is a respray, so could be anyones green. Original colour was white. Have to give credit to the PO for the paint job.
Agree about the radio, but it has a removable panel so that is enough security for me.

Cheers

Quick question for the experts.
When I collected the Mini it had the P-clip for the oil pressure feed pipe hanging on the pipe but not screwed to anything - so the question is what does it screw to?
Item 25 from this parts book.

Very nice car you have - your mods are looking great.

Sorry for the hijack....anyone got a spare P clip? Was polishing mine up and it pinged around the garage and may be lost forever.......

One of the 6 screws holding the binnacle is longer than the others to allow for attaching the extra clip.
