Hi, most times you find 3 ring pistons in 1098 they are Repco pistons, they were fitted from standard. They had wider rings (2mm or .078" top and 2nd?) and the replacement rings are dearer then a set of new pistons, and the wider rings usually ruined the ring land and made it too wide ( if you can fit a .003" feeler gauge down the side of the ring then throw them away, they will fail in the next life quickly. 1100 motors also wear the bores badly most times, my opinion is get it measured, but the odds imho are 95% that it needs reboring. The two ring numbers that come to mind are C1200 and M1259 they are the numbers for the 998 and 1098 repco pistons, just cannot remember which is which. 1100 motors do not take kindly to re ringing, with extremely high piston speeds cheers Lindsay Siebler
