The new hood lining arrived today from UK and now trying to work out how to do it. The instructions aren’t a whole lot of help. Should I attempt this myself? Or should I give it to someone to do for me?

I’m rapidly running out of funds and have already sold a kidney, and seems no one wants my body, but also can’t afford to stuff it up.

I did one half of mine .... and then farmed out the second. The pro did better ..but mine wasn't too bad :)

Basically you put the fabric on the floor, place the frame on top and then apply lots of clothes pegs around the outside until you get it as tight and wrinkle free as possible. Then go to the middle of each side and apply a dob of glue and reapply the peg. Go around again half way between the glued points ..and so on.

From memory the internal struts don't go through tubes, rather there are tabs that wrap around. Use pegs until it all looks good before going for the glue.

Not really as easy as it sounds.... but the pro didn't charge "that" much.....

Good luck, Ian

The instructions talk about using staples and glue. Is that instead of the pegs?

I can't see where you would use staples as these would show on the finished side...wouldn't they??

The pegs are there to hold the fabric in place temporarily so you can get it all stretched out and all the wrinkles out before permanently fixing with glue. It will take more than one round (with pegs) before you get all the wrinkles out.

Cheers, Ian

The staples are just to hold the seam folded flaps in place over the horizontal rails. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the seams to stay aligned when they got to the end of the rails, they kept slipping over them - even though they were centered along the middle section of the rails. So not sure if that’s right or wrong as had nothing to compare to.

Is it just me or have you put it on the wrong side?

I’ll leave the pic there just in the extremely unlikely event that there’s someone as incredibly stupid as me attempting this job.

Clip, as you noted the staples are to fasten the excess seam material over the frame bars. the material needs to be cut away near the external rails (as per Newton's instructions) so that the seams don't tend to slip as yours have done. Think you will find it works better from the other side so that the stapled seams end up on the roof side of the frame. As previously noted takes time and patience and a second pair of hand helps immensely. Whereabouts on the Coast are you located?

Thanks Ozmini, I''m just up the road at Mooloolaba. Spent tonight redoing it and this time it's come out OK. The other half not quite as good as I'd snipped off to much of the tabs to pull it down tight in the corners of the curved rails. Anyway, it's 100% better than it was :)

I don't think I'll ever that outlive it though! Thing is after I did it I actually looked at them twice thinking there's something not quite right, but then didn't go any further - feel like such a goose!
