Hi all
I have assembled my Disc Brake hubs together and low and behold the top steering arm to hub is touching the disc !
It seems the cuts for the bolt holes are not on the correct angle ! The passenger side is fine but the driver side is rubbing on the disc.
I have firmly done up the 4 bolt screws on the drive flange to disc so it is not the disc.
I'm thinking these hubs must be substandard
Thoughts or input would be appreciated. I was very disappointed with the supplied clamps for the CV boots which were instantly touching the hub upon fitment and also the boots themselves seemed poor quality with an almost convex shape of the rubber where the band clamp goes around.
does anyone make decent hubs ???
This kit was supplied by one of the largest suppliers of mini parts on the planet.

few quick questions
are the locating dowels sitting correctly in the hub as it looks like the steering arm is sitting at a pretty whacky angle
is the steering arm base sitting flush with the hub
i would look at these first but if the thread has gone haywire a replacement is needed

on a side note this is one of the reasons we stopped using the aftermarket hubs and only sell genuine ex rover hubs as we can be sure of the quality ,yes they generally cost more but you get what you pay for, im pretty sure we have the genuine rover ones on our ebay store under user mini_imports but if your in the market we are happy to do a better price off ebay that doesnt attract there fees,cheers

That is woeful quality control by both maker and supplier.
I would demand a replacement, I'm sure they would just send another, once they see the pics.

I doubt they would want the crappy one back.

I had similar problems, with the hubs (the lhs being worst, but a different issue) and the drive adapters.
I was supplied with replacements, after they refreshed their stock with better hubs and supplied a different version of their drive adapters.
You just have to argue your case.

Here is a better close up of the arm you can see the angle of the hub cut is way off
Also these clamps that were sent were useless an also interfered with the hub and if i tried to flatten them they just ping off!
I have emailed them with the details, photos and invoice this was at in october 2016 and i have only got round to putting the stuff together so i hope that this is not an issue. Thanks for everyones input it is much appreciated, if things don't work out i will get rover hubs for sure please PM me with details as i also think it is scary if can't do up a bolt to the correct specs without chewing out the steel.

Looks to me that the steering arm is not seating correctly.

This all looks Normal to me.
Every Genuine Cooper S steering arm I have ever seen has been Ground in that area to provide clearance on the Rotor. The same steering arm is fitted to Drum brake hubs but grinding for clearance is not required and is not done.
That CV boot clamp will never work even on an original Cooper S hub. There is simply not enough clearance in there for it. The factory used a very very low profile strap type clip or even a wire clip tucked in very close to the boot. Can't vouch for the Quality of the boot but that isn't your concern.

Dave is to my knowledge correct in that the steering arm looks that it needs to me touched with a file. I have three sets of hubs here and I have just had a squiz at them, all have had a little work on the steering arm.

Were you using the cv clamp pliers to crimp them up or something else?

Dave is right those are just the wrong clip. I got the proper flat ones from a local CV driveshafts rebuilder.

The supplied clamp looks like an Oetiker single ear clamp.
They are totally unsuitable for use on Mini cv joints. They require a very compact boot clamp.
BMW use these on both MINI and non MINI BMWs and they are excellent when used for the intended purpose. They are single use but can be re-used with careful removal.
From the pic of the hub assembly it looks like the surface the steering arm seats against has not been machined flat. It seems to have a slight V shape which has caused the steering arm to tilt slightly.

Note that the steering arm is in fact tilted towards the rotor.
The Steering arm has not been Modified. They are ground for clearance at the Factory

My Cooper S arm is the same, ground flat on the disc rotor side. Five minutes with an angle grinder should resolve the issue.
