Another spacer question: Early UK pickups and wagons had 1/4" spacers on the rear axles. (I have a pair!) Were they ever used here? If yes then they would be legal on the rear, but would they be legal to use on the front (I guess not but would value more experienced opinions)? If no then are they legal as they were used on a variant from another country? Would like your opinions... |

You can use spacer drums if the spacer is integral to the drum and as long as you don't exceed the vehicles max track. |

I think there may be an issue if you are trying to use another countries OEM approved parts in Australia if they contradict out regulations. You may need to prove the vehicle was sold new in Australia with separate drum spacers as standard fitment. The transport departments say pretty much the same thing VIC standards say " Hub/rim spacers are unacceptable unless specified by the vehicle manufacturer." or "Spacers between the wheel and hub are not permitted unless provided by the vehicle manufacturer as original equipment." QLD standards say "Wheel spacers (or adaptors for dual wheel conversions) between the wheel mounting face and the road wheel must not be used unless fitted as original equipment by the vehicle manufacturer." NSW standards say "Wheel spacers or adaptors must not be used for wheel conversions between the wheel mounting face and the wheels unless fitted as original equipment by the vehicle manufacturer." Not sure about other states. |

Does anyone know what the rules are for fitting OEM parts that were standard in the UK but not here? My UK mini has a whole mix of OEM parts, including Metro 4 pot calipers: Which were fitted on the ERA's so I assume are OK, but maybe not! Or have they been ADR approved by someone! Would also like some insight into whether you can use an OEM spacer that was fitted on the rear on the front! Cheers. |

If you could show that they were indeed "factory" fitted (or even a manufacturer option) then I strongly doubt you would have a problem. I have 2 UK cars that have parts never fitted in Oz but which are perfectly legal.... However, I've never (sic) heard of factory spacers ..and can't see why they would be used. Do you have an original part number listing? If so, I would think any objection would be very difficult to sustain. ADRs are a very slippery slope ..BTDT... Braided brake hoses (of a certain type) are ADR compliant but are "not acceptable" according to NSW inspectors.... Cheers, Ian |
