Just above the binnacle nut located halfway up the firewall behind the master cylinders.

Mine was where gtogreen said. It covered the body number stamp.

mine also covers the body number stamp - can *just* feel the numbers through the sticker

it's also more original if the sticker is placed at a slight angle, I've never seen an original one that was put on straight

Also - if you have a 2 tone car the top sticker is the roof colour.

The paint is in very good condition to be original. Was the car repainted and then the sticker put in the wrong spot?

Are you saying all the colour stickers are located above the captive nut?

Yes, All the ones I have seen on the MK2 S and Mini K.

But because it was the normal position doesn't mean that it was never put in a different spot.

From what I have been told by ex factory employees they used various methods to “hide”the body code stamps to prevent any confusion as these were only used as a reference internally by the body shop at the factory and not intended to be visible on a finished car. Under a paint sticker was one of these hiding spots. Also under rubber strips of drain channel, behind voltage regulators. floor of battery tray, behind compliance plate ect. ect.

That is interesting "floor of the battery tray".

Has anyone heard of that place?

Is that another place to look on Mk2 Mini's?

My Mk2 has no numbers stamped on the fire wall, only the radiator shroud and the bonnet gunter.

The body number on a Mk2 S moved from the gutter to the firewall in June 1970.

The 850 and Cooper both had their body number hidden under the ID plate up until mid to late 1963. Then they moved to the radiator shroud

The Morris 1100 has the body number hidden under the removable battery tray on the inner guard.
The little wheel Moke and 998 Big Wheel Moke have the body number hidden behind the ID plate.
