For cars that have not been started for years, addition of oil into the engine via plug holes is often mentioned, without nominating specific oils. What oils are recommended - brand, grade and amount per cylinder? Thanks in advance.

You can also prime the system before cranking

any old engine oil will do... doesn't matter what sort of oil - it's just something to lubricate the bores

I would change the oil and filter before you start.
And if oil was black and sludgy, and you cannot get the oil pump to work after priming in the link above, suspect the oil pickup strainer is plugged. Strip down time.
I bought a Moke motor like this once.

If the car has been sitting for years, I think it important to remove plugs, squirt some light oil around the bores then engage 4th and gently rock the car back and forth (to hopefully avoid breaking a lightly rusted ring to bore)...if it looks to be free then you can turn it over on the battery to see if the oil pressure is coming up normally or try it with plugs in...

[avoid filling the bores with oil tho!]

I just squirt a small amount of WD40 into the plug holes every few weeks, then engage 4th gear and push it back and forwards a few times.
