All, thinking of adding a sump guard like this one: https://minisport.com.au/mini-moke-sump ... minispares

The obvious reason for adding one is protection of the sump/gearbox from damage, but I have heard conflicting stories around oil temp, etc being an issue. At the moment I don't run an oil cooler.

Interested to hear people's thoughts, especially if you have one fitted.

Need to add a cooler, or oil will get hotter on highway runs.
I wouldn't bother with a sump guard, except for rallying.

I’ve got one you can have. It weighs a ton along with any other issues they may cause, but you’re welcome to it.

I took mine off as its a pita to do an oil change as it is with a fixed front panel.

I'm going to take mine off as for general use I really don't think they are necessary. I agree with all of above.

I used one when I lived on a gravel road, plus my mini was rather low so the extra protection was needed. I did remove it after I raised the suspension plus I no longer have the poor road to deal with.

I was thankful for having one on temporarily (for example) on the Wombeyan Caves road...at that time it was a logging road and the ruts were a foot deep in places...surfing on the sump guard was fun/until both wheels were off the ground at times...hmmmm

I can say its saved my gearbox many times, if you drive rough or damaged country roads it's worth it for three piece of mind.
