Update on the NOS new ball joints I got.

They not only looked so much better quality but fitted up without any issues at all and didn't need lapping. Simply a matter of getting the shims right and they ran nice and smooth in all directions. Interestingly, the spring for the bottom joint is slightly shorter than the non genuine brand and I didn't have complete lock up of that joint as others have described.

I got them from Josh at mini imports in Bayswater (VIC) and in my opinion, are well worth the few extra $.

Now to fit up the drive shafts and wheel bearings.

Didn't think to take an exact measurement - but would have been handy as you say.

I'd estimate the difference to be around 0.50 to 0.55mm or 20-21.5 thou. This estimate is based on the gap on the verniers when I measured them. Measured the after market first and then the NOS. Similar gap to one of the thickest shims.

The spring from an old, unused Unipart kit measured 0.508" (approx. 12.9mm).
